      William Ephraim Smith (1829-1890) — also known as Tete Smith — of Albany, Albany County, N.Y. Born in Augusta, Richmond County, Ga., March 14, 1829. Democrat. Served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War; Representative from Georgia in the Confederate Congress, 1864-65; U.S. Representative from Georgia 2nd District, 1875-81; member of Georgia state senate, 1886-88. Died in Albany, Dougherty County, Ga., March 11, 1890 (age 60 years, 362 days). Interment at Oakview Cemetery.

      Nelson Tift (1810-1891) — of Georgia. Born in Connecticut, 1810. Democrat. State court judge in Georgia, 1840; member of Georgia state house of representatives, 1841; served in the Confederate Navy during the Civil War; U.S. Representative from Georgia 2nd District, 1868-69. Died in 1891 (age about 81 years). Interment at Oakview Cemetery.
      Tift County, Ga. is named for him.

      Clennon Washington King, Jr. (c.1921-2000) — also known as Clennon King; "The Black Don Quixote" — of Miami, Miami-Dade County, Fla. Born about 1921. Minister; Independent Afro-American candidate for President of the United States, 1960; candidate for mayor of Miami, Fla., 1996. African ancestry. Attempted to enroll in the then-all-white University of Mississippi in 1958, and was sent to the state's insane asylum; attempted to join and integrate Jimmy Carter's all-white Baptist Church in Plains, Ga., on the eve of the 1976 presidential election. Jailed on numerous occasions for his flamboyant tactics. Died, of prostate cancer, in Miami, Miami-Dade County, Fla., February 12, 2000 (age about 79 years). Interment at Riverside Cemetery.
      Lott Warren (1797-1861) — of Georgia. Born in Georgia, 1797. Member of Georgia state legislature; U.S. Representative from Georgia at-large, 1839-43. Died in 1861 (age about 64 years). Interment at Riverside Cemetery.

    The Political Graveyard

    The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 234,420 politicians, living and dead.
     
      The coverage of the site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, and members of major federal commissions; and (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions.  
      The listings are incomplete; development of the database is a continually ongoing project.
