      John Elliott (1773-1827) — of Sunbury, Liberty County, Ga. Born in St. John's Parish (now Liberty County), Ga., October 24, 1773. U.S. Senator from Georgia, 1819-25. Died in Sunbury, Liberty County, Ga., August 9, 1827 (age 53 years, 289 days). Interment at Old Midway Cemetery.

      Nathan Brownson (1742-1796) — of Georgia. Born in Woodbury, Litchfield County, Conn., May 14, 1742. Physician; served in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War; Delegate to Continental Congress from Georgia, 1777; member of Georgia state house of representatives, 1781, 1788; Speaker of the Georgia State House of Representatives, 1781; Governor of Georgia, 1781-82; delegate to Georgia convention to ratify U.S. constitution, 1788; delegate to Georgia state constitutional convention, 1789; member of Georgia state senate, 1789-91. Died near Riceboro, Liberty County, Ga., November 6, 1796 (age 54 years, 176 days). Interment at Old Midway Cemetery.

    Midway, Liberty County, Georgia
    Politicians buried here:
      John Elliott Ward (1814-1902) — also known as John E. Ward — of Savannah, Chatham County, Ga. Born in 1814. Mayor of Savannah, Ga., 1853-54; Speaker of the Georgia State House of Representatives, 1853-54; U.S. Minister to China, 1858-60. His portrait appeared on Confederate States $10 notes in 1861. Died in 1902 (age about 88 years). Interment at Midway Church Cemetery.

    The Political Graveyard

    The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 234,420 politicians, living and dead.
     
      The coverage of the site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, and members of major federal commissions; and (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions.  
      The listings are incomplete; development of the database is a continually ongoing project.
