Presbyterian. Member, Freemasons. Died of typhus fever in Shawneetown, Gallatin County, Ill., March 19, 1818 (age 67 years, 253 days). Interment at Westwood Cemetery.

John McLean (1791-1830) — of Shawneetown, Gallatin County, Ill. Born in Guilford County, N.C., February 4, 1791. Democrat. Lawyer; U.S. Representative from Illinois at-large, 1818-19; member of Illinois state house of representatives, 1821-23, 1827-29; U.S. Senator from Illinois, 1824-25, 1829-30; died in office 1830. Died in Shawneetown, Gallatin County, Ill., October 14, 1830 (age 39 years, 252 days). Interment at Westwood Cemetery.
