Son of William Warren Ayres and Katharine (Drumm) Ayres. Democrat. Lawyer; Sedgwick County Prosecuting Attorney, 1907-12; U.S. Representative from Kansas, 1915-21, 1923-34 (8th District 1915-21, 1923-33, 5th District 1933-34); defeated, 1920; resigned 1934; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Kansas, 1924; member, Federal Trade Commission, 1934-52; died in office 1952; chair, Federal Trade Commission, 1937, 1942, 1946. Christian. German ancestry. Member, American Bar Association; Freemasons; Shriners; Elks; Knights of Pythias; Odd Fellows. Died in Washington, D.C., February 17, 1952 (age 84 years, 304 days). Interment at Old Mission Cemetery, Wichita, Kan.

  Helen P. Chenoweth (1938-2006) — also known as Helen Cora Palmer; Helen Chenoweth-Hage — of Boise, Ada County, Idaho. Born in Topeka, Shawnee County, Kan., January 27, 1938. Republican. U.S. Representative from Idaho 1st District, 1995-2001. Female. Christian. Died, as the result of an auto accident, near Tonopah, Nye County, Nev., October 2, 2006 (age 68 years, 248 days). Burial location unknown.
  Relatives: Married 1958 to Nicholas S. 'Nick' Chenoweth (divorced 1975); married 1999 to Wayne Hage (died 2006).

  Clarence Martin Montee (b. 1886) — of Pittsburg, Crawford County, Kan. Born in Cherokee, Crawford County, Kan., February 17, 1886. Son of Francis Marion Montee and Mary Emma (Purdum) Montee. Republican. Physician; surgeon; mayor of Pittsburg, Kan., 1923-27. Christian. Member, Woodmen; Freemasons. Burial location unknown.

The Political Graveyard

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 234,420 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of the site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, and members of major federal commissions; and (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions.  
  The listings are incomplete; development of the database is a continually ongoing project.
