    Politicians buried here:
      Christopher Gustavus Memminger (1803-1888) — also known as Christopher G. Memminger — of South Carolina. Born in Wurttemberg, Germany, January 9, 1803. Lawyer; member of South Carolina state house of representatives, 1836-52, 1854-60; delegate to South Carolina secession convention, 1861; Delegate from South Carolina to the Confederate Provisional Congress, 1861-62; Confederate Secretary of the Treasury, 1861-64; member of South Carolina state legislature, 1876-79. Episcopalian. Chairman of the committee that drew up the Constitution of the Confederate States of America. His portrait appeared on Confederate States $5 notes in 1861-64 and $10 notes in 1861. Pardoned by President Andrew Johnson in 1867. Died in Flat Rock, Henderson County, N.C., March 7, 1888 (age 85 years, 58 days). Interment at St. John's of the Wilderness Cemetery.
      Relatives: Adoptive son of Thomas Bennett; married, October 25, 1832, to Mary Wilkinson (1813-1875); grandfather of Lucien Memminger; great-grandfather of Robert B. Memminger. See Memminger family of South Carolina.

Ewart and Mary Ann Ewart. Republican. Lawyer; candidate for Presidential Elector for North Carolina, 1876; member of North Carolina state house of representatives, 1887-89, 1895-97, 1911-13; U.S. Representative from North Carolina 9th District, 1889-91; defeated, 1890, 1904; circuit judge in North Carolina, 1897; U.S. District Judge for the Western District of North Carolina, 1898-99, 1899-1900. Member, Phi Kappa Psi. Died in Chicago, Cook County, Ill., April 28, 1918 (age 68 years, 187 days). Interment at Oakdale Cemetery.
      Relatives: Married 1879 to Sarah C. Ripley.

      John Gaston Grant (1858-1923) — also known as John G. Grant; "Cornbread John" — of Hendersonville, Henderson County, N.C. Born, in a log cabin, in Edneyville Township, Henderson County, N.C., January 1, 1858. Son of William Colin Grant and Sarah Elizabeth (Freeman) Grant. Republican. Member of North Carolina state house of representatives, 1889; Henderson County Sheriff, 1892-96; U.S. Representative from North Carolina 10th District, 1909-11. Died in Hendersonville, Henderson County, N.C., June 21, 1923 (age 65 years, 171 days). Interment at Oakdale Cemetery.

Died in Hendersonville, Henderson County, N.C., December 20, 1941 (age 77 years, 12 days). Interment at Mills River Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
      Relatives: Married to Ella Sue Jones (1867-1960).
