Lumber business; furniture business; member of North Carolina Republican State Executive Committee, 1932-72; treasurer of North Carolina Republican Party, 1966-72; delegate to Republican National Convention from North Carolina, 1968 (alternate), 1972. Presbyterian. Member, Kiwanis; Freemasons; Shriners. Died January 15, 1996 (age 92 years, 320 days). Burial location unknown.

  Albert Lee Canipe (b. 1916) — also known as Albert Canipe — of Spruce Pine, Mitchell County, N.C. Born in Toecane, Mitchell County, N.C., January 22, 1916. Son of Burns M. Canipe and Verda (Patrick) Canipe. Democrat. Served in the U.S. Navy during World War II; lumber business; member of North Carolina state senate 30th District, 1959. Presbyterian. Member, Lions; Veterans of Foreign Wars; Woodmen. Still living as of 1959.
  Charles Joseph Harris (b. 1853) — also known as Charles J. Harris — of Dillsboro, Jackson County, N.C. Born in Putnam, Windham County, Conn., September 11, 1853. Son of William Harris and Zilpah (Torrey) Harris. Republican. President, Harris Kaolin Co. (mining), Harris Granite Quarries, and Harris-Woodbury Lumber Co.; president, Jackson County Bank (Sylva, N.C.); vice-president, American National Bank (Asheville, N.C.); president, Asheville Daily Times newspaper; candidate for Governor of North Carolina, 1904; delegate to Republican National Convention from North Carolina, 1908, 1916, 1924, 1928. Burial location unknown.
  Nathan Thomas Hopkins (1852-1927) — also known as Nathan T. Hopkins — of Floyd County, Ky.; Yeager, Pike County, Ky. Born in Ashe County, N.C., October 27, 1852. Republican. Ordained minister; merchant; lumberman; farmer; Floyd County Assessor, 1878-90; member of Kentucky state house of representatives, 1893-94, 1923-24; U.S. Representative from Kentucky 10th District, 1895-97; defeated, 1894. Baptist. Died in Piketon (now Pikeville), Pike County, Ky., February 11, 1927 (age 74 years, 107 days). Interment at Potter Cemetery, Yeager, Ky.

Lumber business; treasurer, Aberdeen & Asheboro Railroad Co., 1890-1902; president, Citizens Bank and Trust Co., Southern Pines N.C.; vice president, Page Trust Co., Aberdeen, N.C.; member of North Carolina state house of representatives from Montgomery County, 1901-02; U.S. Representative from North Carolina 7th District, 1903-17. Member, American Academy of Political and Social Science. Died in Aberdeen, Moore County, N.C., October 3, 1933 (age 73 years, 342 days). Interment at Old Bethesda Cemetery, Aberdeen, N.C.

The Political Graveyard

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 234,420 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of the site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, and members of major federal commissions; and (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions.
