  John Dob Blanton (1870-1960) — also known as John D. Blanton — of Marion, McDowell County, N.C. Born in Dysartville, McDowell County, N.C., November 12, 1870. Son of William Miller Blanton (1832-1916) and Josephine (Setzer) Blanton (1839-1925). Democrat. Merchant; member of North Carolina state senate 27th District, 1935. Baptist. Died, from a cerebrovascular accident, in Marion General Hospital, Marion, Marion County, S.C., July 3, 1960 (age 89 years, 234 days). Interment at Oak Grove Cemetery, Marion, N.C.

  John Morehead Brower (1845-1913) — also known as John M. Brower — of Mt. Airy, Surry County, N.C.; Boswell, Choctaw County, Okla. Born in Greensboro, Guilford County, N.C., July 19, 1845. Republican. Merchant; tobacco grower; member of North Carolina state senate, 1876-78; U.S. Representative from North Carolina 5th District, 1887-91; member of North Carolina state house of representatives, 1896-98. Died in Paris, Lamar County, Tex., August 5, 1913 (age 68 years, 17 days). Interment at Oakdale Cemetery, Mt. Airy, N.C.

  Calvin Josiah Cowles (1821-1907) — also known as C. J. Cowles — of Elkville, Wilkes County, N.C.; Wilkesboro, Wilkes County, N.C.; Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, N.C. Born in Hamptonville, Yadkin County, N.C., January 6, 1821. Son of Josiah Cowles (1791-1873) and Deborah (Sanford) Cowles (1795-1827). Republican. Merchant; delegate to North Carolina state constitutional convention, 1868; delegate to Republican National Convention from North Carolina, 1868; candidate for U.S. Representative from North Carolina, 1868. Died in Wilkesboro, Wilkes County, N.C., April 1, 1907 (age 86 years, 85 days). Interment at Elmwood Cemetery, Charlotte, N.C.
  Relatives: Great-grandson of Josiah Cowles (1716-1793); third cousin thrice removed of Moses Seymour; son of Josiah Cowles (1791-1873) and Deborah (Sanford) Cowles (1795-1827); married, September 19, 1844, to Martha Temperance Duvall (1824-1866); married, July 23, 1868, to Ida Augusta Holden (daughter of William Woods Holden); fourth cousin once removed of William Sheffield Cowles; father of Charles Holden Cowles.   Jesse Albert Crisp (1853-1906) — also known as Pat Crisp — of Caldwell County, N.C. Born near Lenoir, Caldwell County, N.C., 1853. Son of John N. Crisp and Allie (Greene) Crisp (1829-1890). Merchant; member of North Carolina state house of representatives, 1888-89, 1904-05. Died in Lenoir, Caldwell County, N.C., 1906 (age about 53 years). Interment at Belleview Cemetery, Lenoir, N.C.

  James Edwin Ellerbe (1867-1916) — also known as J. Edwin Ellerbe — of Marion, Marion County, S.C. Born in Sellers, Marion County, S.C., January 12, 1867. Son of William S. Ellerbe and Sarah Elizabeth (Haselden) Ellerbe. Democrat. Farmer; merchant; member of South Carolina state house of representatives, 1894-96; delegate to South Carolina state constitutional convention, 1895; U.S. Representative from South Carolina 6th District, 1905-13. Methodist. Died, of pulmonary tuberculosis, in Asheville, Buncombe County, N.C., October 17, 1916 (age 49 years, 279 days). Interment at Haselden Cemetery, Latta, S.C.

Presumed deceased. Burial location unknown.

  George Washington Finley Harper (1834-1921) — also known as George W. F. Harper — of Lenoir, Caldwell County, N.C. Born in Fairfield Plantation, Wilkes County (now Caldwell County), N.C., 1834. Son of James Harper and Caroline (Finley) Harper. Democrat. Merchant; major in the Confederate Army during the Civil War; member of North Carolina state house of representatives, 1880-81; mayor of Lenoir, N.C., 1886; delegate to Democratic National Convention from North Carolina, 1888. Presbyterian. Died in 1921 (age about 87 years). Interment at Belleview Cemetery, Lenoir, N.C.

Ordained minister; merchant; lumberman; farmer; Floyd County Assessor, 1878-90; member of Kentucky state house of representatives, 1893-94, 1923-24; U.S. Representative from Kentucky 10th District, 1895-97; defeated, 1894. Baptist. Died in Piketon (now Pikeville), Pike County, Ky., February 11, 1927 (age 74 years, 107 days). Interment at Potter Cemetery, Yeager, Ky.

Son of William Martin Warren and Lydia Amelia (Brigance) Warren. Democrat. Merchant; member of Mississippi state house of representatives, 1915-20; member of North Carolina state senate 29th District, 1935. Member, Freemasons. Burial location unknown.

  Albert Edwin White (b. 1863) — also known as A. E. White — of Lumberton, Robeson County, N.C. Born in Forsyth County, N.C., January 7, 1863. Son of Andrew J. White and Harriett A. (Jones) White. Democrat. Merchant; member of North Carolina state house of representatives, 1929-31; member of North Carolina state senate 11th District, 1935. Methodist. Burial location unknown.

The Political Graveyard

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 234,420 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of the site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, and members of major federal commissions; and (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions.
