Civil and mining engineer; member of Nevada Democratic State Central Committee, 1932-48; member of Nevada state house of representatives, 1941-43; member of Nevada state senate, 1947-50; mayor of Las Vegas, Nev., 1951-59; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Nevada, 1956. Protestant. Member, Kiwanis; Elks; Eagles. Died in 1972 (age about 71 years). Burial location unknown.
	Walter Stephan Baring, Jr. (1911-1975) — also known as Walter S. Baring, Jr. — of Reno, Washoe County, Nev. Born in Goldfield, Esmeralda County, Nev., September 9, 1911. Son of Walter Stephen Baring and Emilie Louise (Froelich) Baring. Democrat. Furniture business; chair of Washoe County Democratic Party, 1936; member of Nevada state house of representatives, 1936-42; served in the U.S. Navy during World War II; U.S. Representative from Nevada at-large, 1949-53, 1957-73; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Nevada, 1952, 1956. Protestant. Member, American Legion; Freemasons; Shriners; Order of the Eastern Star; Lions; Eagles; Sertoma. Died in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, Calif., July 13, 1975 (age 63 years, 307 days). 	Pat Nixon (1912-1993) — also known as Thelma Catherine Ryan; "Starlight" — Born in Ely, White Pine County, Nev., March 16, 1912. Daughter of William M. Ryan, Sr. and Katherine (Halberstadt) Ryan. Republican. School teacher; speaker, Republican National Convention, 1972. Female. Protestant. Irish and German ancestry. The Pat Nixon Elementary School in Cerritos, California, is named for her. Died, from lung cancer, in Park Ridge, Bergen County, N.J., June 22, 1993 (age 81 years, 98 days). Interment at Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace, Yorba Linda, Calif.   Relatives: Married, June 21, 1940, to Richard Milhous Nixon. 	The coverage of the site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, and members of major federal commissions; and (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions.
	The listings are incomplete; development of the database is a continually ongoing project.
