Member of Oregon territorial legislature, 1852; U.S. Attorney for Oregon, 1853-54; secretary of Oregon Territory, 1855-59; Governor of Oregon Territory, 1856; member of Oregon state house of representatives, 1858-62; U.S. Senator from Oregon, 1862-65. Died in Cottage Grove, Lane County, Ore., June 16, 1899 (age 76 years, 163 days). Interment at Cottage Grove Cemetery.

Went to California for the 1849 Gold Rush; Governor of Oregon, 1859-62; member of Oregon state house of representatives, 1865-70; member of Oregon state senate, 1876; U.S. Representative from Oregon at-large, 1879-81; U.S. Collector of Internal Revenue for Oregon, 1885-90. Died in Eugene, Lane County, Ore., October 2, 1902 (age 82 years, 151 days). Interment at Masonic Cemetery.
      Relatives: Married, August 22, 1847, to Nancy Jane Hargrave (1828-1912).

      Charles Orlando Porter (1919-2006) — also known as Charles O. Porter — of Eugene, Lane County, Ore. Born in Klamath Falls, Klamath County, Ore., April 4, 1919. Son of Frank Porter and Ruth (Peterson) Porter. Democrat. Lawyer; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Oregon, 1956 (alternate), 1964; U.S. Representative from Oregon 4th District, 1957-61; defeated, 1954, 1960, 1966, 1972. Member, American Bar Association. Died, from Alzheimer's disease, in Eugene, Lane County, Ore., January 1, 2006 (age 86 years, 272 days). Interment at Masonic Cemetery.

Lawyer; U.S. Senator from Oregon, 1945-69; defeated (Democratic), 1968, 1972; delegate to Republican National Convention from Oregon, 1952; member, Commission on Intergovernmental Relations, 1955; candidate for Democratic nomination for President, 1960; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Oregon, 1964. Congregationalist. Member, Freemasons; Americans for Democratic Action. The Wayne L. Morse U.S. Courthouse in Eugene, Oregon, is named for him. Was actively engaged in campaigning for U.S. Senate when he died, in Portland, Multnomah County, Ore., July 22, 1974 (age 73 years, 275 days). Interment at Rest Haven Memorial Park.
      Relatives: Married, June 18, 1924, to Mildred Martha Downie (1901-1994).

Methodist. Member, Odd Fellows; Woodmen. Died April 11, 1956 (age 85 years, 46 days). Interment at West Lawn Memorial Park.

      Clarence F. Hyde (1888-1979) — of Eugene, Lane County, Ore. Born in Sun Valley, Blaine County, Idaho, May 13, 1888. Democrat. Real estate broker; member of Oregon state house of representatives, 1935-38; candidate for Oregon commissioner of labor, 1938, 1942; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Oregon, 1940; Oregon Real Estate Commissioner, 1957-59. Member, Freemasons. Died, one week after a heart attack, in Sacred Heart General Hospital, Eugene, Lane County, Ore., March 3, 1979 (age 90 years, 294 days).
