Served in the U.S. Army during World War II; lawyer; chair of Coos County Democratic Party, 1957; circuit judge in Oregon, 1957-67; U.S. District Judge for Oregon, 1967-84; took senior status 1984. Episcopalian. Member, American Bar Association; American Judicature Society; Sigma Alpha Epsilon; Delta Theta Phi; Freemasons; Order of the Eastern Star; Elks; Rotary. Died, of congestive heart failure, at a retirement home in San Mateo, San Mateo County, Calif., November 3, 1999 (age 80 years, 213 days). Burial location unknown.

  Robert Reyburn Butler (1881-1933) — also known as Robert R. Butler — of Condon, Gilliam County, Ore.; The Dalles, Wasco County, Ore. Born in Butler, Johnson County, Tenn., September 24, 1881. Republican. Lawyer; Presidential Elector for Oregon, 1908, 1916; circuit judge in Oregon, 1909-11; member of Oregon state senate, 1913-17, 1925-28; U.S. Representative from Oregon 2nd District, 1928-33; died in office 1933. Member, Freemasons; Odd Fellows; Knights of Pythias; Elks; Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Died of heart disease and pneumonia, at Providence Hospital, Washington, D.C., January 7, 1933 (age 51 years, 105 days). Interment at Odd Fellows Cemetery, The Dalles, Ore.

  Alfred Evan Reames (1870-1943) — also known as A. E. Reames — of Medford, Jackson County, Ore. Born in Jacksonville, Jackson County, Ore., February 5, 1870. Son of Thomas Givings Reames and Lucinda (Williams) Reames. Democrat. Lawyer; candidate for Presidential Elector for Oregon, 1920; Oregon Democratic state chair, 1936; U.S. Senator from Oregon, 1938. Member, American Bar Association; American Judicature Society; Sigma Alpha Epsilon; Freemasons; Elks. Died March 4, 1943 (age 73 years, 27 days). Interment at Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford, Ore.

The Political Graveyard

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 234,420 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of the site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, and members of major federal commissions; and (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions.  
  The listings are incomplete; development of the database is a continually ongoing project.
