Served in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War; member of South Carolina state house of representatives, 1784-88; delegate to South Carolina convention to ratify U.S. constitution, 1788; delegate to South Carolina state constitutional convention, 1790; U.S. Representative from South Carolina 6th District, 1795-97. Died in South Carolina, November 24, 1833 (age 72 years, 361 days). Interment at Beaverdam Cemetery.
