Born in Revillo, Grant County, S.Dak., December 25, 1882. Son of Gunder Paulson Garberg (1852-1930) and Gunhild (Kjosness) Garberg (1854-1935). Republican. Lawyer; Adams County State's Attorney, 1914-20; member of North Dakota state senate, 1920-23; candidate for North Dakota state attorney general, 1922; U.S. Attorney for North Dakota, 1929-33. Lutheran. Norwegian ancestry. Member, Elks; Sons of Norway. Died in 1951 (age about 68 years). Interment at Recaboth Cemetery.
      Relatives: Married, June 11, 1910, to Sophia Borgen (1883-1957).

      Cassius Silas Amsden (1856-1943) — also known as C. S. Amsden — of Milbank, Grant County, S.Dak. Born in Janesville, Rock County, Wis., March 26, 1856. Son of Galen Amsden and Martha (Brown) Amsden. Republican. Grant County Superintendent of Schools, 1885-88; member of South Dakota state senate 31st District, 1905-06, 1909-28; President pro tempore of the South Dakota State Senate, 1915-28; member of South Dakota state house of representatives, 1931-32, 1935-38, 1941-42 (32nd District 1931-32, 1935-38, 33rd District 1941-42). Died in Milbank, Grant County, S.Dak., August 6, 1943 (age 87 years, 133 days). Interment at Milbank Cemetery.
      Relatives: Son of Galen Amsden and Martha (Brown) Amsden; married, January 5, 1881, to Lois L. Morton (died 1882); married, July 3, 1884, to Julia (Mattison) Smith (died 1926).

      Nicholas Irwin Lowthian (1840-1920) — of Milbank, Grant County, S.Dak. Born in Burford, Ontario, March 17, 1840. Served in the Union Army during the Civil War; delegate to South Dakota state constitutional convention, 1883, 1885; member of South Dakota state senate 31st District, 1893-96. Methodist. Member, Grange; Grand Army of the Republic. Died April 17, 1920 (age 80 years, 31 days). Interment at Milbank Cemetery.

    The Political Graveyard

    The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 234,420 politicians, living and dead.
     
      The coverage of the site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, and members of major federal commissions; and (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions.  
      The listings are incomplete; development of the database is a continually ongoing project.
