Son of Benajah P. Adams and Emma S. (Benjamin) Adams. Republican. Lawyer; South Dakota Republican state chair, 1908-10, 1914-16; Walworth County State's Attorney, 1910-12; Fall River County State's Attorney, 1916-20; delegate to Republican National Convention from South Dakota, 1932. Christian. Member, Freemasons; Knights Templar; Order of the Eastern Star; Shriners; Odd Fellows; Elks; Modern Woodmen of America; Kiwanis; American Bar Association. Burial location unknown.

  Oren Sturman Copeland (1887-1958) — also known as Oren S. Copeland — of Lincoln, Lancaster County, Neb. Born near Huron, Beadle County, S.Dak., March 16, 1887. Son of Samuel R. Copeland and Josephine D. (French) Copeland. Republican. Coal and oil dealer; mayor of Lincoln, Neb., 1937-39; U.S. Representative from Nebraska 1st District, 1941-43; delegate to Republican National Convention from Nebraska, 1944. Christian. Member, Freemasons; Shriners; Knights of Pythias; Optimist Club. Died in Lincoln, Lancaster County, Neb., April 10, 1958 (age 71 years, 25 days). Interment at Wyuka Cemetery, Lincoln, Neb.

  Edith Starrett Green (1910-1987) — also known as Edith Green; Edith Louise Starrett — of Portland, Multnomah County, Ore. Born in Trent, Moody County, S.Dak., January 17, 1910. Daughter of James Vaughn Starrett and Julia (Hunt) Starrett. Democrat. School teacher; candidate for secretary of state of Oregon, 1952; U.S. Representative from Oregon 3rd District, 1955-74; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Oregon, 1956, 1960, 1964, 1968. Female. Christian. Member, League of Women Voters; Urban League; American Association of University Women. Died April 21, 1987 (age 77 years, 94 days). Interment at Pioneer Cemetery, Corbett, Ore.

The Political Graveyard

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 234,420 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of the site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, and members of major federal commissions; and (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions.  
  The listings are incomplete; development of the database is a continually ongoing project.
