Garrett and Virginia (Baughman) Garrett. Democrat. School teacher; newspaper editor; lawyer; U.S. Representative from Tennessee 9th District, 1905-29; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Tennessee, 1916 (alternate), 1924; Judge of U.S. Court of Customs and Patent Appeals, 1929. Died May 26, 1956 (age 80 years, 274 days). Interment at Sunset Cemetery.
      Relatives: Married, November 27, 1901, to Elizabeth Harris Burns.

      William Parker Caldwell (1832-1903) — of Tennessee. Born in Christmasville, Carroll County, Tenn., November 8, 1832. Democrat. Lawyer; member of Tennessee state house of representatives, 1857-59; Presidential Elector for Tennessee, 1860; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Tennessee, 1868; U.S. Representative from Tennessee 9th District, 1875-79; member of Tennessee state senate, 1891-93. Died in Gardner, Weakley County, Tenn., June 7, 1903 (age 70 years, 211 days). Interment at Caldwell Cemetery.

      Henry Emerson Etheridge (1819-1902) — also known as Emerson Etheridge — of Tennessee. Born in Currituck, Currituck County, N.C., September 28, 1819. Son of Thomas Etheridge (1792-1861) and Elizabeth (Harvey) Etheridge (1792-1875). Lawyer; member of Tennessee state legislature; U.S. Representative from Tennessee 9th District, 1853-57, 1859-61. Died in Dresden, Weakley County, Tenn., October 21, 1902 (age 83 years, 23 days). Interment at Mt. Vernon Cemetery.
      Relatives: Son of Thomas Etheridge (1792-1861) and Elizabeth (Harvey) Etheridge (1792-1875); married, October 17, 1849, to Fanny A. Bell; fourth cousin of Augustus Holly Etheridge. See Etheridge family of North Carolina.

    The Political Graveyard

    The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 234,420 politicians, living and dead.
     
      The coverage of the site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, and members of major federal commissions; and (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions.  
      The listings are incomplete; development of the database is a continually ongoing project.
