  Walter Henry Cleary (b. 1887) — of Newport, Orleans County, Vt. Born in Lyndonville, Lyndon, Caledonia County, Vt., November 17, 1887. Son of John Cleary and Mary Louise (McArthur) Cleary. Republican. Lawyer; banker; superior court judge in Vermont, 1934-48; justice of Vermont state supreme court, 1948. Catholic.   Thomas F. Dwyer (1881-1936) — of Lebanon, Grafton County, N.H. Born in Waterbury, Washington County, Vt., November 20, 1881. Democrat. Died in Lebanon, Grafton County, N.H., March 30, 1936 (age 54 years, 131 days). Interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lebanon, N.H.
  Joseph Andrew Gavagan (1892-1968) — also known as Joseph A. Gavagan — of Manhattan, New York County, N.Y. Born in New York, New York County, N.Y., August 20, 1892. Son of John Gavagan and Mary (Lyons) Gavagan. Democrat. Served in the U.S. Army during World War I; lawyer; member of New York state assembly from New York County 22nd District, 1923-29; U.S. Representative from New York 21st District, 1929-43; delegate to Democratic National Convention from New York, 1940; Justice of New York Supreme Court 1st District, 1944-61. Catholic. Member, Knights of Columbus; American Legion. Died in Bennington, Bennington County, Vt., October 18, 1968 (age 76 years, 59 days). Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y.

  Thomas Paul Salmon (b. 1932) — also known as Thomas P. Salmon — of Vermont. Born in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, August 19, 1932. Democrat. Municipal judge in Vermont, 1963; member of Vermont state house of representatives, 1965; Governor of Vermont, 1973-77; candidate for U.S. Senator from Vermont, 1976. Catholic. Member, Elks; Moose; Knights of Columbus; Jaycees; American Bar Association; Rotary. Still living as of 2009.

The Political Graveyard

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 234,420 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of the site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, and members of major federal commissions; and (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions.
